Life [Jun. 6th, 2008|11:38 am]

[Current Music |Ignite]

Life's been weird lately, I lost someone close to me and I just have this general feeling of uneasiness and anxiety day in and day out....I haven't really been sleeping good, well, I never really have, but more so than usual and I don't feel motivated to really do anything. I've just been going through the motions of life and work but not really feeling all "there". I think i've been snapping on people too and I usually don't do that...or if I do, its in a more humorous way...fuck, I can't wait to go to Vegas, I think getting out of town will help....whatever, I saw Brandon's post about bitching and I felt like bitching too, later!

Politricks......Don't believe the hype. [Jan. 16th, 2008|10:58 am]
[Current Mood | apathetic]

I'm fucking sick of politics....I spent a long portion of my young adulthood thinking I could make a difference by playing the game. Now I feel like a fucking sucker for getting involved in the first place. I honestly don't give a shit anymore, it doesn't seem like it matters whether you vote or not, whether you try and get involved in debates, discussions or activism. It seems like the more politically aware you are, the more detached you become from the human aspect of life. It seems like I would make more of a difference by ignoring all party lines, opinions and affiliations, and focus on finding the inherent good in everyday people. That way we could just hang out and be human without getting caught up in the big scam, the big media hype.....go ahead and call me ignorant, I don't give a shit, I wanna be ignorant of it all, its on purpose. I'd rather make a difference on the smallest scale possible....by taking personal responsibility for my actions in everyday life, not leaving the responsibility to someone I don't know and will never know outside of cryptic pamphlets and watered down debates.

So I leave for Japan on or around March 21st.....the tour dates are booked. A week's worth of shows spread out over two long weekends with some days before, between, and after for sightseeing....This is probably the coolest thing that's ever happened for me.

The accomodations are nearly set, we have a driver to take us to all the shows, all the venues have professional equipment for us to use. All we need are those pesky plane tickets and money to survive...Rumor has it that Jonny J is going to be hanging with us at the shows and maybe showing us around a bit...and we promised to take Cory to Disney Japan if he can behave himself.

It will be quite the trip to say the least.

So its nearly official...GNP will be doing a week long tour of Japan next Spring...holy shit that will be amazing. Our friends in United Kaos League (Japanese old school hardcore band) offered us a spot on the first week of their tour...All the shows will be around Tokyo and Jonny Jameson has already offered his services as a roadie/promoter...Fuck yes. It will be VERY expensive but definitely worth it.

Strange Occurrences [Aug. 9th, 2007|05:08 pm]
[Current Mood | weird]

So I recently read this book by Jon Krakauer called Into the Wild about a young man who turns his back on his affluent life in the D.C. suburbs to hitchhike Keroac style across the country, eventually ending up in the wilderness of Alaska and dying of starvation. You can look it up on Amazon or something to find out what its about, mind you its a true story. During the couple of weeks preceding my reading of the book, I kept hearing about the story through various mediums (radio, TV, random people, etc.) and decided that I really should check it out because it seems like a story that I would dig and it seemed odd that I kept hearing about this specific story over and over again.

I go to Capitola Book Cafe to buy the book and ask the lady at the counter where to find it. She says to follow her to the back of the store (which is odd because they have never done that for me before, they always just tell me where the section is). I follow her and she tells me that today is my lucky day and fate would have it that a used copy of the book just came in a day or so before and it must have been meant for me. So I am already feeling a bit weirded out at this point and happen to glance at the cover. The first words that I see are "His name is Christopher Johnson..." That is my name...all the hair on my arms and neck stands straight up. The night before I had seen The Number 23, in which the main character happens upon a book that describes his life too a 'T'...this thought enters my mind as I pay for the book and start to walk out of the store. The lady says goodbye and tells me to "not doing anything stupid now", as if she knows something I don't.

I finish the book in about two days time all the while realizing that I can relate to this young man on various levels (albeit, not nearly to the extreme that he takes it) and my mood and demeanor during this time shifts from weird to spooked.

The day after I finish the book I am listening to my favorite radio show at work and hear about a movie coming out September 21st with a soundtrack done entirely by Eddie Vedder. Curious about what movie would inspire Eddie Vedder to get off his high horse and write an entire movie score, I do a quick google search for it.....the movie....Into the Wild directed by Sean Penn. Now, I swear to you that I had not heard about this movie at all before that day and the info was bestowed upon me a day after I finished the book as if it was written in a script for my personal movie. But that's not the end of it.

I come into work the next day still reeling from this story that seems to be haunting me at every corner and I go to visit my boss (who also happens to be my mother). She informs me that her and my step-dad would be taking a trip to Alaska in September and that she needed my help taking care of my grandparents while she was gone. I tell her that its really weird that she should inform me of this today because I've been having these strange occurrences regarding this story about a young man dying in the Alaskan wilderness and that its been popping up in my everyday life as of late. She acknowledges this and proceeds to tell me that I got a new Outside magazine in the mail. I pick up the magazine and what do I see on the cover? A special feature on the filming of the upcoming movie Into the Wild and its relationship to the author who originally wrote the story (before the book) in Outside magazine in 1993. Seriously? Yes.

So that is where I leave you. If you read all this, i'm amazed that you had nothing better to do and sorry it was so damn long. I really wanted to share this because I found it to be one of the strangest strings of circumstance I've ever encountered in my life....we'll see if anything else becomes of it.....needless to say, I am really looking forward to the movie. Oh, and don't worry, I won't be wandering into any desolate wilderness anytime soon....the closest I'll get is maybe Niscene Marks.

I still love Barry Bonds despite you haters! [Jul. 12th, 2007|12:02 pm]
Although, its pretty fucking weak that he bailed on the home-run derby...Anyway, I'm toying with the idea of buying myself a moped for my birthday...there's a sweet Honda in excellent condition that I see everyday on my way home from work for $300...I think that would be fun...I'm definitely getting my sports shoulder stabilizer brace today and my insurance is footing the bill...So when I get back on the bike or field, I'll look something like (see picture below)...sans basketball and probably with a shirt on...hopefully it'll help keep my lame shoulder in its stupid socket...If I was a horse, I probably would've been put down by now, but would at least have a gigantic wiener.

Booyakasha!

I got some new friends at the fish store yesterday for our aquarium....I would like to welcome 'King' and 'Hank' (the Platys), 'Angel' the Angelfish & 'Lips' the sucker-fish to the family....'Aqua-Marine' & 'Tigger' the guppies now have to share....sorry dudes, you had it too good for too long, don't hate the player, hate the game.

In other news, I've had to switch to decaf on the doctor's orders because of my high-blood pressure and the meds I am now on to lower it. Luckily, I am on the medication without the shitty sexual side-effects (whew!) and its already working. Wednesday it was 175/105 and today its 139/80. I also can't have more than a couple or few drinks a day and I gotta watch my sodium intake closely! The doc says that I shouldn't have to be on the meds forever though, just until my blood pressure is normal and stable.

I need to ride my bike more, so fuckin step-up people and help get me out of the house!

The Angry Samoans show was fuckin killer! And what's even radder than the fact that they put on an amazing show?...Fat Mike showed up at the 418 to hang for a bit...For anyone who knows me well at all, you'll know that its a big deal to me to meet that dude...I have to admit that I was a bit star-struck, which I hate to be, but couldn't really help it...Anyways, I'm stoked on that! I think I said something along the lines of "you guys are down for the Against Me! show eh? Nice. That show killed this shit, but whaddya gunna do. I'm an asshole, later dude!"

In case anyone didn't hear.. [Dec. 22nd, 2006|12:25 pm]
Dave Chappelle is doing something like 6 shows starting tonight through tomorrow night in San Francisco and tickets just went on sale a little over an hour ago, they are expensive but well worth it...the show is at Punchline, and that club is VERY small, I've been there myself a couple times, so get on that if you wanna go, cause I can't, here's the link, if you can't see it, just highlight my entire entry:

I am selling a vehicle. [Nov. 16th, 2006|01:24 pm]
Here's the deal, I am selling this for my buddy/co-worker "Steve the Computer Guy" (check out my pictures, I dressed up as him for halloween at work)....I am doing this as a favor because he basically built/gave me a free computer. He got a brand new car and he doesn't wanna go through the hassle of selling his old one. Here is the details and a picture from my camera phone:

1996 Chevy Blazer 4x4 Automatic in Dark Green.

Loaded (electric everything w/CD player, Cruise Control & leather interior in decent shape, everything works save one mirror - see below).

This only has 53,400 miles on it and runs like a champ. I personally have driven it a few times to Tahoe and back and never had a problem (great snow vehicle).

Steve works and lives in Scotts Valley, the car was only driven to and from work daily w/occasional trips to the store...it was always warmed up and never abused...basically it was barely driven, this is why the mileage is so low.

The price is $3500, I will consider offers, but we are pretty firm on the price because of the low miles and good shape of the vehicle. The reason it is so cheap is because it has minor body damage on the passenger side from a fender-bender and the electric mirror on that side doesn't work 100% (unrelated to the fender-bender). It also will need new tires if you plan on using it in the snow/off-road. I will give you any and all details about the vehicle.

If you are interested, message me w/questions. I can give you my phone number as well. I am willing to meet serious buyers around the bay area (but I don't wanna drive more than an hour to meet you).

This truck will not last long at this price w/such low miles, so get on that!

Beerleague! [Sep. 28th, 2006|10:32 am]
[Current Mood | sore]

The first softball game of the fall season was last night...it was my first game since I quit little league 11 years ago...The first inning was a bit rough for me as I lost two fly balls in the lights and let a run score...oh, and the first one hit me in the head too, haha. I did make up for it though by getting 4 hits & 4 runs with 4 at bats...So I'm batting 1000% for the season thus far, we'll see how long it lasts...God damn is that shit fun, I'm sore as sore can be this morning, but its worth it.

I actually fell asleep relatively early last night (around midnight) but woke up at 4:30am and have been awake ever since. Tylenol PM ran its course for me for years and years.....but now the melatonin isn't working either...fuck meds for sleep, I want the natural way!

Wow.

Gorilla Biscuits was fucking amazing. At least I thought so, I'm still quite hoarse this morning. I don't remember the last time I sang so hard at a show and felt such a good vibe. I had a few beers with some buddies and remembered why I liked that band so goddamned much in the first place. Oh, and I think I tripped AND weirded Nick Bane out with my half-assed quantum physics theories.

There needs to be more reunion tours. Redemption 87, check. Lifetime, check. Gorilla Biscuits, check. Minor Threat, ???. Fury 66, ???.

Check this out [Jul. 17th, 2006|10:52 am]
I had the most radical dream of all time the other night. Get this. I dreamt that Superman and Spiderman fought in the street. The whole thing played out like a movie in my REM stage. Spiderman put up a damn good fight, but of course the man of steel prevailed. Pretty cool huh?

Last night was quite the bro-fest, it was good to see everyone out in force. Santa Cruz has such the extended punk rock family, it was like a reunion, I love it. Even Pat fucking showed up (as in GNP Pat). All the bands were great, Staticorn is still fantastic despite my dislike of that one new song. Save Yourself sounded a helluva lot tighter and rockin' than last time I saw 'em. Abhorrance sounded super tight...although I think I maybe embarrassed Marisa (and definitely Mary) when I kept yelling at her to "turn it up Bass Lady!".....oh well. Brandon was rocking out exceptionally hard for some reason...Maybe it was because of Satan's B-Day....Or maybe it was the Guinness. Either way, kudos dude (by the way, I think the Save Yourself guitar player is in love with your style, he was rocking the air guitar the whole time...sweet).

Meander [May. 24th, 2006|11:55 am]
My mom and step-dad made the decision to put our cat down this morning. They had been back and forth numerous times and hadn't had the heart to do it, but decided that it was time, and he is gone.

Meander was 21 years old. He was born in my Mom's house and lived there his entire life. His brother Scratch died after being hit by a car about 3 years ago...ever since then, his spirit seemed to diminish...he used to go and sit by his brother's grave and stare at the small stone in the front yard.

Meander had become senile and had taken to defecating in the house, seemed very confused at times and howled throughout the night, every night for the past year or so. My mom tried using litter boxes, having Meander sleep in the garage and a number of other things, but the quality of life for all parties involved had declined. It is very hard and sad to say goodbye to a friend of over 2 decades, but it was the right thing to do.

He lived a very full and healthy life...up until his bro died, the vet said he was medically as healthy as a 6 year old....he will be missed.

So long buddy.
